Building enlargement, 1910 stable to ten-story condominium

Built in 1910 as a six-story horse stable, complete with a horse elevator and cast iron fluted column bases rated for 120 pounds per square foot, this Chelsea building was enlarged into a ten-story luxury condominium. The structural sequence was exacting: new floors were carried up through and above the original frame, and a series of cantilevered dormers now steps out from the upper floors, opening the residences to light and terraces on both sides.
